Marsala and Mazara del Vallo

The ancient Lilybaeum, nowadays known as Marsala, is an active and vibrant city and has got many archaeological areas, churches, palaces. The historical centre shows the different domination that ruled this town, from the Punic to the Romans, Arabs and Normans. Marsala is the place where Garibaldi arrived with the Expedition of the Thousand and it is famous in the world for its wine. Marsala's wine is a delicacy which you can taste in many wineries open to the public. Marsala's territory has the Oriented Natural Reserve of the Stagnone Islands: here you can see Mozia Island, ancient city of the Phoenicians, a small place where history and nature are a worldwide archaeological heritage.

Mazara del Vallo is in the centre of the Mediterranean and it has always been one of the most interesting cities and territorial conquest. Thanks to its position, Mazara has always been a crossroad for cultural and trade exchanges. Thanks to its history the town is open to multi ethnicity. The civil and religious buildings that are interesting to see in the historical centre show the cultural influences through the many years. A must is the Dancing Satyr, an extraordinary bronze sculpture of the Hellenistic period, which was found in the Channel of Sicily. In the surroundings there are many natural areas such as the Integrated Nature Reserves, Lake Preola and Gorghi Tondi and the Paludes of Capo Feto and Margi Spanò.
